On it's own it's hard to use as an armature, except for small objects.
In combination with iron wire, cardboard or package material, tinfoil is really
great to wrap it around your wire armature. This is good for three things:
- it helps to flesh out your model and create some body on it
- it protects the armature. This is important when you're using package material that can shrink
in the oven.
- it helps to let clay stick on the armature. Fimo doesn't stick to iron wire, but
it does stick to tinfoil.*

I've recently discovered Premo, which sticks to almost everything, even iron wire!
If you use iron wire armatures a lot give Premo a try, it really works great! |
